St Teresa’s College, Abergowrie is a Catholic boarding school for boys operating under the auspices of Edmund Rice Education Australia (EREA), a network of schools and educational communities offering a Catholic education in the tradition of Blessed Edmund Rice.

Blessed Edmund Ignatius Rice (1762–1844) was an Irish Catholic educator and founder of the Congregation of Christian Brothers and the Presentation Brothers. His vision was to provide education that empowers young people, particularly those who are disadvantaged, through faith, compassion, and opportunity.

Established by the Christian Brothers in 2007, EREA now governs a national network of schools and educational entities across Australia. Today, EREA supports more than 60 schools and educational communities, educating tens of thousands of young people throughout Australia. As an EREA school, St Teresa’s College is committed to delivering an education inspired by the values and mission of Edmund Rice and guided by the Charter for Catholic Schools in the Edmund Rice Tradition.

At St Teresa’s College, we strive to live out the four EREA Charter Touchstones:

  • Liberating Education – empowering students through learning that develops knowledge, skills, and confidence.
  • Gospel Spirituality – nurturing faith, hope, and compassion through the teachings of Jesus.
  • Inclusive Community – fostering a welcoming environment where every individual is valued and respected.
  • Justice and Solidarity – promoting fairness, advocacy, and service to others, particularly those on the margins.

While EREA maintains its own canonical and civil identity, it remains closely connected to the ongoing ministry and heritage of the Christian Brothers. EREA schools operate within their respective dioceses and with the mandate of the local Bishop.
